Russia's entry into the Rio Olympics has finally been cleared now. The IOC (International Olympics Committee) has given green signal to Russia to participate in Rio Olympics. For the past few days, Russia has been questioned regarding the doping charges and cases by IOC. But after few rigorous meetings, on Sunday, Russia has been given the clearance by the IOC executive Board.
The Russian athletes have been given some strict guidelines which they have to adhere to and they will be under constant surveillance by the concerned authorities. the athletes who meet this requirements will be qualified. In his statement, Mr.Thomas Bach after the meeting said that, Russia has been given permission, but strict rules will be imposed on every person who participates the Rio Olympics. He/She will not be allowed to participate , if those rules are not followed. He also stated that, The Participants will not loose their right , until they are adhering to the rules of IOC.
How did it all start:
In December 2014, A German Media released a documentary which stated that 99% of the Russian Athletes are tested positive for doping. Based on this WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) started its investigation and Banned Russian Athletes Organisation. But in June 2016, Russian Athletes Organisation filed a petition in the Court of Arbitration of Sports to allow 67 Russian athletes to participate in Rio Olympics which the court rejected bluntly. WADA, in its report stated to ban the Russian athletes but the IOC has given a chance now.
Till now Russia has won 392 medals, 132 gold.
