Brazil Rio Olympics: Next ISIS target?

Olympics in Rio is going to begin in few weeks. Large number of athletes from different parts of the world are going to attend the games. Politically significant figures of many countries will attend to support their national players. Security will be a major issue of concern. Brazil security forces are on a constant watch on suspects.

Few days ago, the Brazillian police arrested 10 people who are allegedly involved with ISIS. Along with this 100 other suspects are kept under surveilance. Brazil's Law Minister, Alexander Mores has confirmed that the arrested 10 people are citizens of Brazil. It has also been stated by the ministry that these 10 people do not know each other personally but they were in constant touch with each other through Whatsapp and telegram. They were arrested from a southern state in Brazil, Parana. Although Brazil hasn't had any terrorist attack in the past but Olympics being one of the popular events and as most of the countries participating in the Olympics are either fighting against ISIS in Syria or are against the ISIS ideology. The ministry has stated that Brazil is not one of ISIS targets but as it is the host of Olympics 2016, a possibilty of terrorist attack cannot be ruled out. Hence the Brazil security officials are working 24/7 to prevent any kind of attack and are keeping a constant watch on suspects. One thing to notice is that, the police have become more alert after the terrorist attack in Nice, France which killed 84 people. Rio Olympics is going to start from 5th august and the visitors estimate is around 5 lakhs and it is assumed that most of them would be American citizens. The Brazil security forces are seeking help from intelligence sources of many countries which include England, France, Israel etc. Many suspects are under watch these people mostly belong the border areas of Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil.
